Completion of Acting and Contextual Studies 2. A good command of spoken and written English. This module develops on FHEQ Level 4 study by beginning to focus the student’s contextual understanding on the professional demands of being an actor. Whilst still contextualising the work of the rehearsal module, audition processes and strategies for a successful career are addressed to lay the foundations for the Professional Development modules of Level 6.
Begin preparation for career development.
Develop understanding of industry appropriate audition practice at a standard industry audition.
Begin to introduce the student to the demands and expectations of industry professionals.
Develop skills that will be required in audition situations
Develop a range of audition material.
Apply rigorous academic research and reflection processes to practical rehearsal issues.
Develop a convincing understanding of a range of principal theories relevant to contemporary actor training.
Develop an ability to reflect cogently upon and document personal learning.

Indicative content includes:
The selection, preparation and performance of audition pieces.
Contextual study supporting the rehearsal projects in the Level 5 Rehearsal Module 1 (Shakespeare and Comedy).
Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
Give students a beginning of an understanding of the professional demands of being an actor.
The learning and teaching methods include:
3 hours a week of workshop classes for 12 weeks of semester 1.
1.5 hours a week of seminars for 12 weeks of semester 1.
Guided revision in week 12
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate:
· The beginnings of an understanding of an audition process.
· The ability to reflect on more complex practice, for example: Shakespeare.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
· A mock audition in the examination period.
· A 2000 word essay reflecting on the work of either or both of the projects in Rehearsal Module 1, submitted at the beginning of week 11 of semester 1.
Formative assessment and feedback
Formative feedback will occur during practical sessions and seminars on a verbal basis. The feedback will usually be in a group context, but may sometimes happen one to one with the tutor.
