Prerequisites / Co-requisites

Successful completion of the Acting Technique modules of Level 5. Students will be expected to attend warm-up sessions and arrive appropriately prepared for physical work. Detailed and extensive research and preparation will be necessary in pursuit of the modules aims and objectives.

Module overview

Media 2 extends students' experience of working with cameras.

This module builds on the work of Level 5. Students extend their understanding of the various technical aspects of filming, as well as screen performance.

Through a series of Tutor led workshops, students make a short film working right through the process, from initial script idea through pre-production, production and post-production.

Students work under supervision to produce their final short films.

Module aims

Consolidate the skills requisite to working in recorded media, including independent work without heavy reliance on the director.

Integrate techniques acquired and developed at Levels 4 and 5 in an industry level experience.

Provide a working environment which adheres to professional values and codes of conduct, employing industry professionals where required

Develop an intelligent engagement with the key components of the creation of filmed performance

Indicative content includes:


The developing, shooting and editing of a short film.

The development of showreel material.

Methods of Teaching / Learning


The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:


Develop students’ awareness of camera techniques, following on from the camera classes in the Level 5 Acting Technique modules.

Develop students’ technical awareness with video recording equipment.


The learning and teaching methods include:


Rehearsals led by tutor or visiting professional.

Group research.

Individual research.

Independent study.

Performance.
