In the event of a student being unable to complete any specific component of the module a practical resit opportunity will be arranged: either the student will be required to present a pair of monologues for a panel of staff in the manner of an audition, or the student may submit a recording of screen acting exercises from classes. To be determined by the unit/module that is incomplete.

Enrolment on all other Semester 1 modules in Programme: Contextual Practice 1, Acting 1, The Integrated Body 1
Industry Practice 1 develops and refines technique in the practices of screen acting and stage combat, and begins to prepare the student for professional auditions.
The Screen Acting element consists of the initial building blocks necessary to sustain an eventual career and will equip the student with the necessary tools to perform in front of a camera with emerging confidence. develop awareness of the demands of different shots, cognitive behaviour patterns for continuity and matching shots and acting that is expressed through physicality and the inner monologue.
Students will emerge with a credible audition portfolio, facility with screen acting techniques and an understanding of industry practice from a variety of perspectives.
The Audition Technique begins to prepare students in vital techniques required to secure a professional career in Theatre and supports the later Industry Practice 2 and Advanced Practice Modules.
Priority is initially given to audition technique, and the formation of a broad audition portfolio suited to the individual student. Also included is an overview of current market demands and seminars that enable a heightened awareness of the casting process. Professional casting directors and agents are brought in for a number of seminars and mock-auditions, designed to prepare the student for the professional development module.
Assessment will be based on performance of the assigned Screen Acting scenes and audition monologues, and (in the case of screen acting) individual contribution to process. Stage combat will be assessed as part of a one-week intensive course towards a basic professional qualification.

Presentation of audition monologues; professional preparation – including lectures and seminars on managing a professional career: Equity, Spotlight, Agents, Casting, finance and taxation
Intensive Stage Combat course leading to BADC basic qualification
Screen acting classes on the practicalities of screen performance, the inner monologue, shots and continuity. Students will consider castability, screen qualities and technical discipline. Camera preparation classes will focus on preparation techniques, character development and ability to deliver truthful and believable behaviour on screen.
Master classes where available from professional practitioners in skills such as radio, voice-overs, corporate role-play, devising theatre, running small scale theatre companies.

Assessment of audition pieces: this addresses a), c) and d) above.
Assessment of performed exercises in screen acting; this addresses a), b) and d) above.
The Audition performance will be assessed in week 10 of semester 1. The Screen Acting performed exercises will be assessed in Week 13 of semester 1.
