Prerequisites / Co-requisites
The students should be working within an environment that manages patients with acute health needs Students will require evidence of having studied patient assessment such as the level 6 or 7 Health Assessment module or equivalent
This module will develop healthcare professionals knowledge and critical understanding for managing the acutely ill patients across the lifespan autonomously within the workplace. The module will enable healthcare practitioners to apply their learning to patients within their area of practice and develop a deep and systematic understanding of integrated care and inter-professional working in managing acute illness.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
Enable the student to critically integrate theoretical and evidence-based knowledge and skills when managing a patient with an acute illness.
The learning and teaching methods include:
· Online content
· Facilitated seminars
· Peer group discussions
· Practice presentations
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate collaborative management planning within acute illness, with rationale for decisions made, and communicate clearly and concisely to colleagues.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
A 20 minute PowerPoint presentation (filmed) to two assessors and a small group of peers of an anonymised patient case study covering the complex management of a patient with acute illness.
Students will demonstrate a systematic and comprehensive understanding of current problems, new insights and their accountability for their decisions
The student will answer questions from peers and assessors.
The student will submit the presentation slides with the supporting evidence base.
The presentation will receive a graded mark with summative feedback.
· A presentation to peers of complex management strategies for a patient with an acute illness. The presentation should cover a brief overview of the physiological processes causing the acute illness and the student’s rationale and accoutnability for patient management. The individual presentation will be conducted in groups of 5-6 students, last 20 minutes and allow an opportunity for peer questions and peer feedback.
Feedback will be provided verbally at formative point and in written form following summative assessment.
