Module overview

In this module students will rehearse and realize the performance initiated and developed in THE 3011 Company: Formation and Development.  Students will work as part of the performance company (or companies, if appropriate) formed in THE3025; they will rehearse, produce, and perform that work, undertaking specific jobs/roles within their company as determined in THE3025.  In this sense, these two co-joined modules build on Level 4 Theatre Project and Level 5 Theatre Laboratory, by way of turning core responsibility for a realized performance over to the students.  Students in this module, therefore, will be able to pursue area(s) of theatre and performance of their own choosing (ideally areas which they see as employment opportunities following graduation), and they will also further their experience in self-direction, creative facilitation, and collaboration.  They will, nonetheless, work partly under tutelage that will aid them in processes and tactics for overcoming obstacles in rehearsal, in some elements of production management, and in the provision of feedback on the development and realization of the performance.

Methods of Teaching / Learning

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to facilitate the realization of a self-directed group performance; the module tutor will therefore act as a part guide, part production manager, and part external eye/advisor on the development of the performance.

Assessment Strategy

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to contribute individual skills and abilities to a group-created performance.

 

Thus, the summative assessment for this module is:

·         Performance Practice (which may entail back-stage, non-acting work).  This single assessment is addressed to all the learning outcomes.

 

Formative assessment and feedback

The structure of taught sessions for this module is primarily devoted to offering feedback on student work; feedback will therefore be continual.
