Educational aims of the programme

To produce graduates with a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) who are capable of continuing onto the next stage of training for entry into the legal profession or who are able to secure positions in industry, commerce or the public sector

To develop and deepen students interest and understanding of Law, in its national and European, social, political and cultural context

To produce graduates with a sound grasp of the principles of Law across a wide range of legal topics with an ability to apply those principles to legal problem solving

To produce graduates with well- developed legal research skills

To produce graduates who have a foundation understanding and experience of key practical legal skills (e.g. negotiation, interviewing, debating, advocacy, presentation skills)

To enable students to integrate a wide range of legal materials from various sources (both paper and electronic) and use these materials to marshal both written and oral arguments

To enable students to identify legal issues within factual problem scenarios

To assist students in producing clearly express, succinct and cogent written and oral arguments

To develop students insight into the application of the legal rules so they can, for example, demonstrate an ability to distinguish cases on their facts and to argue by analogy

To facilitate students engagement in life-long learning, study and enquiry
