This module aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and understanding of methods, theory and practice in different types of assessment techniques used in Health Psychology research in accordance with requirements (stage 1) of the British Psychological Society's Division of Health Psychology accreditation criteria. This module addresses the following curriculum areas: research and research methods, contexts and perspectives in health psychology, physiological and psychosomatic disease processes, health-related behavior and cognitions, interventions and measurement issues. This module will help to prepare students to conduct research in an ethically and technically rigorous and practical manner.
Introduce students to a variety of approaches used in health psychology research
Help students to develop a comprehensive understanding of conducting research in an ethically and technically rigorous and practical manner
Introduce students to the methods used to conduct a systematic review of psychological research

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
provide students with an understanding of the techniques used in health psychology research.
The learning and teaching methods include:
11 x 2hr lectures including in-class discussion and learning exercises
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate the application of research skills in health psychology.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
Essay 1000 words 25% (addresses learning outcome: 1) Submission: Week 6
Systematic Review 3500 words 75% (addresses learning outcome: 2) Submission: Week 12
Student will receive formative assessment based on group exercises and case studies completed in class.
Written feedback is provided by the course convenor on both assignments.
